Clay Aiken announces for Congress.
Hopefully you know who Clay Aiken is.
This is very well done and shows he has a grasp on what is important to the District he will be running in. A lot of thought and planning went into this announcement, I'm impressed.
It should be fun to watch what happens in this district, because it looks like there won't be much to watch around here.
Observations about the world in which I live. A little politics, a little current events, a little about my life and times. Polite feedback always welcome.

Senator Baucus Going To China
It appears the President will announce that longtime Montana Senator Max Baucus will be his choice to serve as Ambassador to China. Mr. Baucus who has served in the senate for over 35 years will be resigning his Senate seat.

Senator Baucus is not beloved by the media nor is he beloved by the more liberal wing of the Democratic Party but he is respected, admired and generally liked by the Washington establishment. Which is important when assuming a position as important as Ambassador to a country like China.
Mr. Baucus was a crucial ally to the President and was very important in passing The Affordable Care Act. So, the message sent to the Chinese is that the President is sending someone he is very close to and has confidence in to be his representative.
The appointment of Senator Baucus also gets him out of the way and the country for the 2014 Senate race in Montana. Polling suggests that Mr. Baucus has out lasted his welcome and the voters are ready for a new face. The Democratic Governor is likely to appoint his Lt. Governor to the position with the hope that it will give the Democrats an advantage in the 2014 election.

NY GOP Comes Begging to Trump
I don't get peoples interest in Donald Trump and why some folks want the TV "Star" to run for high government office.

Now the New York State Republican party is pleading with Mr. Trump to run against current Governor Andrew Cuomo. What is it about Trump that some people thinks qualifies him for either President or Governor? What has he done or accomplished in his life?
He's been married 3 times and has cheated on his wives and humiliated them each in the process. So he is clearly not stable nor his he respectful of women.
He is a bully always threatening people, calling them names and starting pathetic and petty public fights. He clearly does not have the temperament do deal with the intricacies of foreign policy or Democrats in the legislature.
How many times have he and or his company filed for bankruptcy? So he is clearly not that great of businessman.
There are two reason why Trump will not actually run for office.
1. He could not face the humiliation of a defeat. He knows not only a campaign would ruin his brand but a loss will destroy it.
2. He will have to disclose how much he is really worthy and what his sources of income are. What if he is not worth as much as he says he is? What if he is just a paper tiger and living off the largess of his investors? He would have to give up his lucrative contract with NBC in order to run and perhaps he can't afford to give up a job that pays.
My guess is that Trump will not run.

PA Governor; Dead Man Walking
The Daily Kos handicaps next years governor races across the country.
"Dead Man Walking" Is how they describe Pennsylvania's astoundingly awful Governor Tom Corbett.

I have not always loved this commonwealth's governors but they have all been very smart and by and large capable. And, then there is Tom Corbett who is in over his head, out of his league and astonishingly incompetent.
After last weeks comparing gay relationships to incest a comment that was meant to smooth over some bigoted remarks by the attorneys he hired to "defend traditional marriage" was so far out there there that I now truly believe the 46th Governor of Pennsylvania is not very bright.
Maybe all the pandering to the extreme right wing has made his brain mush or maybe the fact that when he was Attorney General he ignored the evidence against Jerry Sandusky really just proves he is either not very bright or incompetent or maybe both.
Either way Tom Corbett may very well be the worst Governor Pennsylvania has ever had.

Congressman Dent Leading - Glad to See It!
Could this be the act of leadership from Congressman Charles Dent that I have been looking for his entire career? According to reports and his office our GOP Congressman is urging his colleagues to go along with the Senate and fund the government through a truly clean continuing resolution.

As you know the government is set for a partial shut down at midnight tonight unless a bill makes it through both chambers and is signed by the President. The Democrats in the Senate will only pass and the President will only sign a free and clear straight forward spending bill. The House is being held hostage by it's extreme right wing and the Speaker is so weak and powerless that he is unable to lead.

So, into the vacuum steps my Congressman Charlie Dent. I have not always been kind to Mr. Dent but I do always acknowledge when he does the right thing.
Everyone always says what a great guy Mr. Dent is and how nice he is. I don't really care if he is nicer than what Pope Francis appears to be what I want and expect from our Congressman is leadership. Mr. Dent has always seemed to be happy being a back bencher and going along to get along. My theory is why enter politics unless you are ready, willing and able to lead. To this date the Congressman has shown little inclination in that direction. I may not always agree with where Mr. Dent is headed but I just want him to show some guts and stand up for what he thinks is right.
Last week Mr. Dent issued a statement claiming he was from the governing wing of the Republican Party and was opposed to shutting down the government, even as he went along with legislation that would have in the end done just that. But, I didn't comment about it because I was hoping he would be a man of his word.
I am pleased to see that Congressman Dent is just that; a man of his word and is working to ensure the federal government does not shut down.
Good on you; Congressman Dent

Lynne Cheney & Hubris Perfect Together
The haughty and superior Grande Dame Lynne Cheney has "unloaded" on former Wyoming Senator Alan Simpson for not supporting her precious spawn or the Senate.
The hubris of the Cheney family has no boundries.
Apparently the only thing that matters to this awful family is loyalty. Not to party, not to state, not to country, the only loyality that matters is to The Cheney Family and to The Cheney Family alone.

The quirky, honest and patriotic former Wyoming Senator and current national statesmen and big thinker has had the audacity to not support despicable Liz but instead has decided to remain loyal to both his party and his conscience and is supporting incumbent Senator Mike Enzi.

How dare the respected and dare I say beloved Alan Simpson not support a carpet bagger over a life time and dedicated Wyoming citizen when said carpet bagger is Liz Cheney?
How is it possible that the painfully honest former Senator not support a woman who beleives her own sister does not deserve full citizenship in this country when that women is the daughter of Dick & Lynne Cheney?
Imagine that. Imagine anyone in Wyoming not just bowing down and giving up their freedom to vote for whomever he or she thinks would best represent them in Washington when Dick & Lynne Cheney's souless daughter has decided that she is the one to represent them.
The sense of entitlement the Cheney family feels has no limits.
And it is undeserved.

Senator Gregg is Frustrated
Former NH GOP Senator Judd Gregg has said that the GOP is being ignored and that Republicans should be ignored . Senator Gregg is by no means a centrist or moderate but he is part of the governing wing of the Republican party. A wing that has so few members they could have their annual conference in my dinning room.

He thinks the national Republican Party has nothing to offer the American people, is devoid of good ideas and since it only offers obstruction to the "Obama" agenda and not alternatives it deserves to be ignored by the American voters.
He thinks the national Republican Party has nothing to offer the American people, is devoid of good ideas and since it only offers obstruction to the "Obama" agenda and not alternatives it deserves to be ignored by the American voters.
"Most Americans do not seek purity; they seek answers to the everyday problems they confront. They expect their government to be of assistance in addressing those problems, not to aggravate them through artificial and self-inflicted economic mismanagement, such as having a default crisis that could easily be avoided. "
"If the Republican Party ignores this concern and constantly speaks to an ever-narrower segment of the population, it is not going to be viable for long, no matter how vocal that small band of people may be."
Unfortunately for Sen. Gregg he will be roundly criticized by the likes of the often married junky with a radio show and loved by the stars of MSNBC which means his days as an influence in the Republican party are over.

#note to sensible Republicans if you want to have a conference in my dinning room I will give you great deal on catering.

Boehner - Extremists Matter More Than Country
John Boehner has proven to be the worst and weakest House Speaker by capitulating to this . Like many Republicans he has decided that power trumps governing, truth, justice and the American way.

Speaker Boehner has agreed to support Teabaggers in their efforts to allow a government shutdown rather than fund The Affordable Health Care Act.
John Boehner has decided keeping his office is more important than anything else. Historians will write that he has been one of the weakest and least effective Speakers in history but apparently that does not matter to Mr. Boehner.
He has coveted this role for such a long time and he will do anything and everything he can to keep it. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, the second in line to the Presidency has decided that the extremists in his party are more important than his country.

There can be no worse political humiliation than being tossed out as Speaker by your own party (ask Newt) and if John Boehner does not bow to the extremists he is in danger of that happening. So, instead of doing what is right for the country Speaker Boehner is falling in line with the people who gave him the Speakership because being Speaker means more to Boehner than anything else.

The Coming Implosion in Alaska
Alaska's Republicans appear ready to implode during next years Senate primary.
Pity that.
The race is shaping up to be two more main stream Republicans and the loser the nominated last time, who went on to be defeated by a write in candidate. A very formidable write in candidate but still people had to take the time to actually write in the name Lisa Murkowski.
The Republicans have no chance to retake the Senate without a win in Alaska.
Sarah Palin has been making noises about running but we all no she will not run because she is a quitter, lazy and being a Senator will not pay her enough money.

Gov. Corbett's Pandering Cost Taxpayers....A Lot
Attention taxpayers of Pennsylvania the worst Governor in the long history of this Commonwealth Tom Corbett is spending $400 an hour for the lead attorney & $325 an hour for each of his many associates to defend discrimination.

Yes, the pandering to the extreme right that Corbett is so clumsy at is costing those of us fortunate to live in King Charles's gift to William Penn is going to cost us a lot of money.
I wonder how many teachers could have been re-hired?
Could a bridge have been fixed?
How many potholes on route 78 could have been filled?
Any of the Democrats are better than Tom Corbett.
We can do better Pennsylvania!
***** Note to WETM - Pennsylvania is not a Northwestern state. #justsayin

Mary Cheney Vs. Liz Cheney
Mary Cheney tells her sister Liz that she is wrong about the issue of marriage equality.
You have to wonder is Despicable Liz so craven for power so obsessed with being a Senator that she would deny her own sister full citizenship?
The answer is yes.
Liz Cheney is her father's and mother's daughter. Power is everything, power is all that matters. And, how can the Cheney's benefit.

Tom Corbett- Polls agree..nobody likes you
New poll numbers are out or PA. Governor Tom Corbett and they are horrible (for him).
Pennsylvania is a cranky state and we are really hard on our Governors. The first two years are just a horror and then we tend to soften and get used to them during the second two years. Since we started allowing our Governors to run for re-election in the 1970's every Governor has been re-elected. We put them through tough re-election races but the always win. After that test we continue to support them for another two years and the we turn on them faster than Sean Hannity has turned on reason.
An interesting side note - no Lt. Governor has ever succeeded the Governor into office. The Commonwealth has flipped parties for the Governor every 8 years.
In this poll only 38% of Republicans think the Governor deserves re-election which is stunning. But, most PA Republicans are not tea baggers, but some are so the very moderate Corbett has had to play to that wing of the party and no one really trusts him because we all know that is not him.
Many of us believe that when Corbett was Attorney General he refused to prosecute Jerry Sandusky because he thought it would hurt his chances for election to the Governorship because it would have pissed off Penn State fans. The when the shit hit the fan he jumps in and tries to control the situation and forces the firing of Joe Paterno. The Governor is an automatic trustee of Penn State and he attended his first meeting during the crisis and in fact he is the first Governor to attend a trustee meeting ever. He attended the meeting because he wanted to prove he was in control. His poll numbers were already bad but L'Affair Nittany Lion showed Corbett as a craven opportunist.
I had lunch with the Governor a few months ago........................................
Actually I attended Chamber of Commerce day at the capitol a few months ago and he was the luncheon speaker.
I think I was the only Democrat in the room and all the folks I was eating with dared me to ask a really tough question with a liberal bias during question and answer time. Then we found out all questions needed to be submitted in advance and the host would pick which questions to ask.
It is tradition when a Governor enters a room to speak everyone stands up and applauds. And, because I am who I am I was one of the first people standing up.
He is the Governor and he deserves the respect.
Then, came his speech.
He whined, bitched and complained about everything and took no responsibility for anything. His failures were blamed on Barack Obama, the teachers, Ed Rendell, the teachers, the legislature, the teachers, me, the state store system, the courts, the teachers...
Everyone and everything was to blame for his failed administration but him. I looked around at my Republican friends and they were in pain about how bad this speech was. Here was a Republican Governor talking to an audience of Chamber of Commerce members, the perfect audience and half way through his whine they were tuned out and turned off.
The Governor answered a few questions, selected by the head of the PA Chamber, and I can assure you they were tough and provocative questions. "Why do you think the teachers hate our children so much?" "What can we do about ending all taxation for anyone who works hard for a living?" OK those were not real questions but they were close. The Governor's answers were as uninspiring as his speech.
Mercifully it ended, When the Governor is done speaking and he leaves the room it is tradition to stand and applause. I started to stand up (because I am that guy) and NO ONE else did. His speech was so bad and his answers to the soft ball questions were so weak that a crowd of Chamber members could not even see fit to honor him with standing applause.
This should have been his crowd.

Liz Cheney; Loathsome or Despicable on Marriage?
"I am strongly pro life and I am not pro gay marriage"
In an interview to clarify her views on the issue of gay marriage carpet bagging Wyoming Senate candidate Liz Cheney announced that she was not for it. Even though her sister was married to her long time female partner last year. Despicable Liz or in this case Loathsome Liz was in attendance as were her parents, who are in favor of full citizenship for their lesbian daughter.

We should not be surprised by this pronouncement. The ultimate Washington insider is trying to enhance her tea bagger credentials by turning her back on her own sister by throwing her sister under the bus.
The depth of Ms. Liz opportunism knows no bottom.
The first part of her statement confuses me every time I hear a right wing extremist say they are pro life and opposed to gay marriage in the same breath. The PA Right to Life committee did a "pray in" at the office of pro marriage equality Montgomery Register of Wills a few weeks ago.
What does abortion have to do with marriage?
What does loving unborn fetuses have to do with two men getting married?
So, you are anti choice on a woman's right to terminate or her unwanted or unhealthy or forced by rape pregnancy you also have to be a homophobic bigot?
Good to know.
Oh Lizzie Cheney you have sold your soul and thrown your lot with a loathsome and despicable crowd.
Good luck with that!
If I had F. U. money I would send a donation to Sen. Mike Enzi and he is one of the most conservative members of the Senate.

Good News Bad News About Lindsey Graham
There is good news and bad news in the race to oust Sen. Lindsey Graham .
The good news the very annoying, grandstanding, whiny, easy to criticize but offers no real suggestions Senior Senator from South Carolina could be out of the Senate.
The bad news is a Democrat has no chance in the race so the real election is in the primary and Sen. Graham is being challenged by people to his right and somewhat extremely to his right so the nation could be worse off as a result.
Sen. Graham has on occasion been a reasonable voice in the Republican party and has on occasion reached out to the other side in the name of compromise. None of the people running to his right appears to be so inclined.
Of his three opponents the most interesting is Nancy Mace, she owns a PR firm and has never run for office but is well known though out the state because she was the first to gender integrate and the first woman to graduate from The Citadel. Which of course she turned into a book deal .
The race is already very nasty and should be great fun to watch.

Joe Miller - Still Handsome Still Crazy
Alaskan GOP Senate loser Joe Miller is back in the news.

Remember when he lost to a write in candidate even though the very powerful Sarah Palin supported him with are her heart and soul.
Oh now wait Sarah has no soul so no wonder he lost.
Anyway, he is back in it for another shot at the US Senate (remember when the Senate was a majority of dignified, thoughtful leaders) and he has not tempered his hate or his crazy. He is linking our President to...............THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD!
The thoughtful Mr. Miller has joined the other brilliant Republican statesmen Allen West and the Crown Prince of the crazy haters Louie Gohmert of Texas in pushing this story line.
I just wish I did not think Joe Miller was so handsome because then I could ignore him.

Is Steve King The Biggest Idiot in Congress?
Iowa GOP Congressman Steve King gets more and more bizarre by the hour. Now, he defends dog fighting - but claims he was misquoted and his brilliant logic was taken out of context.
He really is the gift that keeps on giving.
He makes Sarah Palin seem sane...............................................
Well not really

Congressman Farenthold is a Silly & He's From Texas
Not very bright birther Congressman Blake Farenthold of Texas (of course) claims there are enough GOP votes to impeach President Obama.
Bring it on you stupid man....
The American people take the impeachment of their elected President very seriously!
Bring the charges and see how the American people react - the last time the GOP impeached a President they lost seats in the next election and Newt Gringrich lost his job.
So, go ahead impeach him - try it!
What a horses ass, I mean really on what issue would they impeach this President?
And yet, the thought of impeaching Dick Cheney never crossed their mind?
What's even worse is that this moron will no doubt be re-elected.
Why do I still have hope for this great nation?
.
Bring it on you stupid man....
The American people take the impeachment of their elected President very seriously!
Bring the charges and see how the American people react - the last time the GOP impeached a President they lost seats in the next election and Newt Gringrich lost his job.
So, go ahead impeach him - try it!

"I'm In" Despicable Liz
Well! She's in... Despicable Liz Cheney is in the race. She is going to challenge an incumbent Republican Senator in the primary.
Typical Cheney only loyal to Cheney.
It will be interesting to see if the voters of Wyoming are willing to turn a Senate seat over to a resident of Virginia. If she does win she won't have to spend any time house hunting.

The incumbent Senator in an interview today was joined by the State's other Senator.
