Of course All Lives Matter! What kind of idiot does not think that?
In our current political climate only white people seem to be saying it. And, why do they say it?
Because they are trying to prove that "Black Lives Matter" is racist? They are afraid people of color are going to get special protections? I don't know anymore. White people are so frustrating.
Black lives matter is not racist.
It is becoming very apparent that our black citizens do not think their lives matter as much as the lives of someone who looks like me. Which is why the expression Black Lives Matter exists.
Ask yourself;
Would you want to be Black or Hispanic in this country? If so, tell me why.

Maybe I am
A snob or an elitist
Another local blogger once said that I was the leader of the Snob voters of Bethlehem. I don't fully remember the context of what he why he thought calling me that was an insult but I think it was because I had high expectations for candidates and office holders. Or, I only support people who want to do what is best or it's just because I just want my candidates to run campaigns that don't rely on the low road or dumbing down things to attract votes. Or, it was because I supported candidates he did not.
Tonight a person commented that I should rename this blog "The Neo Petite Bourgeoisie" she did not explain why so I have no idea what she was thinking when she posted it.
Perhaps I am a snob. I guess it depends on ones definition of what a snob is. So, really whatever.
If someone wants to call me a snob but does not have the guts to tell me why or even tell me who she really is I can't worry about it.
Not that I would anyway.

It Made Me Think About.....Me
Every month the Nazareth - Bath Chamber of Commerce hosts a networking lunch specifically designed to empower women but men are more than welcome. I attend from time to time. My company reserves two seats at the lunch each month and sometimes I am fortunate enough to attend.
Today's speaker was Michael Owen of the Heyman Talent Agency he discussed the importance of first impressions, self branding and how to present yourself. It was pretty interesting and gave attendees something to think about the next time we have 30 seconds to sell ourselves and or our product / service.
He ended with this amazingly poignant ad from Dove.
The ad asks women to describe themselves to a sketch artist and then it asks other women to describe the women to the same sketch artist. The differences are stunning. The women's self image were often very negative and the when they saw the sketch of the way others described them they were often surprised to see how beautiful others saw them. The room got very quiet.
A poor self image is not limited to women.
When I worked for a different company we were given pretty extensive self evaluations to write at the same time our supervisors were writing their evaluations of us. They were not allowed to read our self evaluations until we were officially given our evals, a follow up session was always scheduled to discuss the differences. For me these sessions always ended being a catharsis and encouraged me to believe in myself a little more. I was grateful that my raises and promotions were based on my bosses evaluations and not my own.
When I could afford a shrink (a platinum HC plan helps) we discovered pretty quickly that a lot of my humor was directed at myself and we set about figuring out why but we didn't dwell on the negative we worked on fighting that impulse. I have come a long way but I still have to fight to urge to make myself the punch line of all my stories or my Bitstrips. (I miss my shrink)
One of the things people notice once they get to know me is the ego and cockiness is pretty much a cover for a steaming cauldron of doubt and insecurities. I never expected to still be a work in progress at this advanced age but here I am.
But, at least I am still working at it.
Not continuing the fight is not an option.
This Thanksgiving I am thankful for those of you out there ready, willing and able to assist in that fight.

It's all About Heart!
Welp!
While at the doctor today the nurse took a mighty long time
checking my blood pressure and pulse – I did not think much of it because @ 8:30 on a
Monday – perhaps she was just groggy
Because this is a teaching practice I always have to be checked out by a student. He does all the usual things, ask the usual questions and then spend a great deal of time listening as I breath heavy in and out much longer than the usual chest listening.
Then the Doctor comes in, the usual small talk and catching up and he does his listening thing and it takes much longer than usual.
He gets done - looks at the student and then back at me.
"Well Donald your heart sounds unusual - not that I am really concerned but I want to do an EKG on you before your flu shot."
"OK! Dr. L what is going on?"
"Well your heartbeat is inconsistent - as one pulse leave the third valve another one should be entering like boom---boom---boom---boom---boom "
"Uh huh"
"Well your heart is more like one of the every now and then one of the pulses is faster than the previous ones more like boom---boom---boom---boomboom---boom---boom---boom---boomboom---boom---boom"
My mouth falls open
"So I'm going to send the nurse in with the coldest hands and get you set up for the EKG and then we'll discuss from there"
A few minutes I am getting hooked up and tested and yes her hands were corpse cold. It goes quickly she rips off the stickers and leaves the room.
Dr. L. comes back in "Yep it's what I thought your heart beat has gotten a little irregular not sure why but it does not seem serious but I want you to keep an eye on it. Have you noticed any chest pains or tightness lately?"
"I have noticed but it just seemed like the same symptoms of my anxiety attacks"
"OK if it happens again and you use your calming techniques and exercises and you still have some discomfort it is your heart" "If it happens a lot you call me right away and we will go to the next step but right now is is so moderate and mild I am not concerned - it could just be a change " "Get your blood work done so we can check that angle"
I don't smoke and never have, I eat right, I walk more than I drive, I have maintained a consistent weight but I need to cut the Red Bulls and if I want a little pick me up have a cup of coffee it is less concentrated - I don't drink a lot of coffee and my Red Bull intake goes in spurts I can go days, weeks without one.
So there you have it in Dr. L. words - "It just looks like your heart loves you more than it used to" "I am going to find a rusty needle and come back in with your flu shot" "See you in 6 months"

Stunning Comment About The President & his Daughters
Failed California Libertarian candidate and rabid political activist Jules Manson posted "Assassinate the fucken nigger and his monkey children" on his Facebook page, he was of course referring to the President of the United States and his two daughters. He has of course taken the post down and closed his FB page but of course nothing really goes away once it is posted on the interwebs.
According to The New York Daily News the Secret Service visited this low life. Manson claims the Secret Service is satisfied that he is not an actual threat to the President but a spokes person for the Secret Service is saying the investigation is still open.
I wonder if Fox News or even members of the main stream media will cover this incident with any serious reporting? If Fox does cover it I sure it will be from a freedom of speech perspective and the MSM will just give it "in other news" treatment.
I know that not everyone who opposes the President is a racist but it is becoming increasingly clear to me that those who aren't are a distinct minority. The level of disrespect this President is shown is more deep than just a broken and polarized electoral system.
But, on second thought maybe it is really only skin deep.

Another School Shooting
So! Just another school day in the United States of America.
A 12 year old child walks into school with a semi-automatic weapon - blows away a teacher, shots two of his fellow students and then takes his own life.
And, the nation yawns.

Sandy Hook to be Torn Down
The voters of Newtown, Connecticut have voted to tear down the Sandy Hook school and to design and build a new school on the same site. Because of the large expense of this project the voters had to vote and approve the expense.
The vote was 4,504 to 558 so it was not very close. I would love to speak to some of the no voters to see what or if they were thinking. Are they tea party folks who oppose government spending? Did they want the horrible reminder of that day to stand the test of time? I don't see how any reasonable person could have opposed this effort.
The new school is expected to open in the fall of 2016

de Blasio Raising Money - Quinn Left a Bundle on The Table
Since winning the New York Democratic mayoral primary Bill de Blasio has raised almost three times as much money as his Republican opponent.
The most amazing part of this story is that third place candidate and one time front runner City Council President Christine Quinn had almost $5 million. One of the cardinal rules of politics is end the race with as little money as possible. It is wise to set aside some money for the general election and or post primary expenses but you don't leave $5 million unspent.
I would have thought that when her lead began to dwindle she would have spent more money to get her message out. Even in the money pit that is the New York media market $5 million dollars can go a long way.

Another Mass Killing...It all feels so hopeless.
Another mass murdering rampage this time at a Navy Base. How many times does this have to happen before this nation's leader will compelled to do something to end this madness?
Our soldiers were slaughtered on their base Texas, our babies were slaughtered in their first grade classroom in Connecticut, young couples were slaughtered while watching Batman in Colorado, our teenagers were slaughtered while changing classes also in Colorado, our college students were slaughtered on campus in Virginia and now our sailors were slaughtered in our nations capital.
And, our elected representatives in Congress will do nothing about it. They are so afraid of a psychotic madman name Wayne La Pierre and they are more concerned about re-election then they are about our safety.
How many more people need to get slaughtered?
What is my Congressman Charlie Dent going to do about this? Nothing, nothing at all.
At least my extreme right wing Senator Pat Toomey tried do something last year.

Trying To Make a Town All White
This is 2013 right? And, people still think like this.
Paul Craig Cobb would like to turn a small town in North Dakota into and all white enclave. Supporters of Mr. Cobb have been buying up tracks of land in the town and apparently are going to try to force the town to proclaim itself White only.
Of course, the courts, the state and federal government will not allow it but that does not seem to matter to the folks involved. I'm sure they are hoping for a violent confrontation.
"In an interview with The New York Times, Cobb said he hoped his plans in Leith would "excite" white people and "give them confidence because we're being deracinated in our own country."
I wonder how many people of color actually live in Leith, North Dakota?

Is Sarah Palin Capable of a Clear & Coherent Thought?
Is America's quitter in chief capable of a coherent thought? I had to read this a few times to figure out what Sarah Palin's actual opinion is.
Something is wrong with sister Sarah her thoughts are all jumbled up and speaking in a cogent and clear sentences seems to be beyond her capabilities. Whenever I hear her speak I think "What the hell did she just say?" She just talks for the sake of talking.
Why does the MSM still pay attention to her?
She is never going to be President, she is never going to be a Senator, she is never going to say anything that makes sense.

Liz Cheney; Loathsome or Despicable on Marriage?
"I am strongly pro life and I am not pro gay marriage"
In an interview to clarify her views on the issue of gay marriage carpet bagging Wyoming Senate candidate Liz Cheney announced that she was not for it. Even though her sister was married to her long time female partner last year. Despicable Liz or in this case Loathsome Liz was in attendance as were her parents, who are in favor of full citizenship for their lesbian daughter.
We should not be surprised by this pronouncement. The ultimate Washington insider is trying to enhance her tea bagger credentials by turning her back on her own sister by throwing her sister under the bus.
The depth of Ms. Liz opportunism knows no bottom.
The first part of her statement confuses me every time I hear a right wing extremist say they are pro life and opposed to gay marriage in the same breath. The PA Right to Life committee did a "pray in" at the office of pro marriage equality Montgomery Register of Wills a few weeks ago.
What does abortion have to do with marriage?
What does loving unborn fetuses have to do with two men getting married?
So, you are anti choice on a woman's right to terminate or her unwanted or unhealthy or forced by rape pregnancy you also have to be a homophobic bigot?
Good to know.
Oh Lizzie Cheney you have sold your soul and thrown your lot with a loathsome and despicable crowd.

Santorum & Cuccinelli - Joined at the Hip (or somewhere)
Like his butt buddy.... I mean political compatriot Rick Santorum, Virginia Attorney General and GOP Governor nominee Ken Cuccinelli is obsessed with sex. But, not just any sex he is obsessed with oral and anal sex.
He is so obsessed that he is encouraging judicial activism in order to control giving head and booty banging.
One has to wonder why Santorum and Cuccinelli are so obsessed with this. What happened in their lives? Why are they so concerned?
What trauma could have caused this drama?
And, why isn't the National Inquirer doing an investigation into this?

Can I tell you how much I enjoy reading Joan Walsh's postings on Salon and watching her on MSNBC?
I enjoy it a lot!
She provides me with important background information and she helps clarify my thinking on issues. Her thoughts are clear and her opinions are precise and spot on. She has a biting wit that helps her to get to the heart of matter and she is not afraid to take on the big boys and girls and call them on their bullshit.
Below is her most recent column "Revenge of the Abortion Barbies." Where she wonders if Republicans are right to be scared of mobilized women voters. She makes a convincing case that they should be.

When Will It Be Safe?

I'm sure the people on the right will condemn this but the Daily News asks a compelling question.
When will it be safe for young black men to walk the streets of this country? When will young black men not be viewed with suspicion while out in public, while shopping at the mall, while walking downtown, while shopping at Target?
At the same time when will it be safe or young black men to walk the streets of their neighborhood in Chicago or many other cities in this country.

Guilty of Being a Young Black Male
His killer reported him to the police because he was suspicious of a young black man walking through "his" neighborhood.
Trayvon's killer did not believe a black teenage boy should be in his neighborhood and he was going to do something about it.
The man who killed the unarmed teenager, loaded his gun then stalked, pursued and confronted him because the teenager was a black male.
A scuffle ensued and Trayvon was killed. The scuffle would not have occurred at all if Trayvon's killer had found him guilty of being a black male teenager.
The jury may have found Trayvon's killer not guilty of murder but the fact remains and will always remain that he is the man who killed Trayvon Martin.
We know that race was the factor in Trayvon Martin's death. It is doubtful that the man who killed Trayvon would have pursued him if Trayvon looked like Justin Bieber.
But, what we don't know for certain if was race a factor in the results of this trial.
Legal experts are wondering if the Special Prosecutor would have brought lesser charges against Trayvon's killer he may have been convicted.
I have to wonder if the Special Prosecutor from this very conservative part of Florida brought charges that she knew would result in an acquittal in an attempt to placate all sides. She only brought the charges after a lot of public pressure. A fair and open trail was held in front of TV cameras and Trayvon's killer was acquitted of murder charges. The Special Prosecutor did her job and the judicial system did it's job.
The system works. According to the Special Prosecutor. I do find it odd that she played no part in this trial, she brought the charges but kept herself off camera until after the trial was over. Then she held a press conference and with a big smile professed her faith in the system and proclaimed the justice was served. She seemed almost happy with the result or at the very least she seemed satisfied.
We do not know what the discussions were like in the jury room and we do not know what is in the hearts of the 6 white women who sat on the jury. But, I can't help to wonder if the man who killed Trayvon Martin was acquitted because Trayvon Martin was guilty of being a young black male.

She seemed almost happy with the result or at the very least she seemed satisfied.
We do not know what the discussions were like in the jury room and we do not know what is in the hearts of the 6 white women who sat on the jury. But, I can't help to wonder if the man who killed Trayvon Martin was acquitted because Trayvon Martin was guilty of being a young black male.
