Baton Rouge Reaction

I am a middle aged white guy who grew up solidly in what was once considered the middle class.  Can I truly understand what it is like to be black in this country?  Probably not.

But, I grew up in a small multi-cultural community. Easton in the 60's was like a little Brooklyn.  Everybody did not always get along but we tried.

I have spent more than 32 years of my life with a black man and I have seen how he is treated by white people.

I have had co-workers/people say to me "Well... I don't really think if him as black"  When I asked what they meant they said things like "You know he just doesn't act black"  I of course asked what does that mean and "Well you know he...."  They really don't know how to explain it and then of course they to a person got angry that I was suspected them of being racist. They were and they are.

He is black and he knows he is black every time he looks in the mirror.  He is more likely to get pulled over by the police and, he is more likely to get followed by store security than I am.

When we were younger I remember white women clutching their handbags a little closer to their bodies or crossing the street when the saw him.  On more than one occasion I noticed white women clutching their bags and then seeing me at his side lightening up their attitude because clearly if he was with a twinky white boy he was not going to steal their handbag or worse.

I have been there when people tell racist jokes but because "he doesn't act like a black guy"  they thought it was OK.  What does that even mean "he doesn't act like a black guy"

I am trying to understand why police pull over black people at a higher rate than white people.

I am trying to understand why black people get longer sentences than white people.

I am trying to understand why black students are sent to detention more times than white students.

Racism is alive and thriving in this country.  You can't deny it.  In fact, I challenge you to deny it.

But, before you do.

Answer this question.

If you are a white person in this country; Would you want to live your life or raise your son as a black person in this country? 

If so, tell me why. 

This was inspired by todays news out of Baton Rouge.  I am in no way trying to justify the slaughter of police. 

And, sadly I have no answers and that is extremely frustrating.

Tired

I am sick and tired of politicians saying this after each mass murder.  Your thoughts and prayers are not working. 

Do I think any changes will come of this?
Sadly no.

I just can't understand this level of hate and I hope I never do.

Bill Donohue Is a Failure

The head of The Catholic League Bill Donohue tried to be very clever this week.


He failed.

Mr. Donahue who makes a living by claiming Catholics are victims was mad as bees this week because of all the fuss about about the gays not being allowed to be gay in the annual NYC St. Patrick's day parade.

He was bound and determined to make the gays look bad and to prove that the gays are hypocrites.

He applied to walk in the annual gay pride march and carry a banner reading "STRAIGHT IS GREAT".

Mr. Donohue was so smug when he announced his very clever ploy, he was going to prove once and for all that the gays were just as narrow minded as he is, because there was no way they were going to allow him to join the march.

The gays responded quickly with a warm and welcoming approval.  Mr. Donohue can join the march on June 29th.

Will Mr. Donohue actually have the guts to show up? or will he make some lame excuse and pretend to be victimized by the day?  He is a bully and we all know that bullies are cowards so.......

This little failed ploy just proves that Bill Donohue is really not very bright  .

I wonder when the people who pay Bill Donohue's bills will grow weary of his lame antics?

White Man March

I know it has been a few weeks, I think I have so overwhelmed by so much that is going on around me and around the world that my brain has had a hard time keeping up.

It could have also been my annual post holiday, I effing hate winter depression.

But, this one brought me out of my doldrums.

A call was put out by "The Power Rangers"  for a White Man March . The march took place in Florence, KY.

They hung signs that said "Diversity = White Genocide"

This was supposed to be the Caucasian Million Man March.

10 men showed up.

Oh and according to their web-site The Jews are behind the plot to destroy white people.

Why do Republicans Hate Sex So Much?

For Virginia Republicans.

It's not about jobs.
It's not about education.
It's not about about infrastructure.
It's not about farmers.
It not about public safety.

You may remember last year when the Attorney General and GOP nominee for Virginia Governor tried to ban oral sex between adults in the Virginia.  It was laughed out of court.

Republican State Senator Thomas Garrett of Virginia is trying to ban various sexual acts up to and including well.......just about everything.

I wonder how this will impact economic development?

Why do these Tea Bagger Republicans claim they want smaller government and they want less government regulation except when it comes to sex.

Why do Republicans hate sex so much?  

Apparently Palin's Investors Made Her Apologize

Tea Bagger icon Sarah Palin has sort of apologized.


That alone is worthy of a moment of silence since the woman who does not know what she does know never ever admits to not knowing what she is talking about.

The deep thinking 1/2 term Governor of Alaska was recently asked about the Pope and she slammed him and called him a "Liberal" which in her world is the worst possible insult.

She was upset because His Holiness has expressed compassion, caring, tolerance, understanding and love.

Think about that for a moment!

American Opinions About Jews - I am a little shocked

It appears that old theories die hard , in a recent survey ordered by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) it appears that 26% of Americans believe that the Jewish people were responsible for the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Despite that fact religious scholars, historians, theologians and Popes have all said and proven the opposite.

Some other results of the survey may explain why more than a quarter of Americans believe this.

14% believe that Jews have to much power in the United States.  Maybe it's all those Jewish Presidents and Vice Presidents we've had.

19% believe Jews have too much power in the business world and 17% to much influence on Wall Street, 18% to much control over the media (except on Fox of course) and in a surprisingly small number only 24% believe that Jews run the movie and TV industry.  I am a little shocked by how small that number is.

But, this number does not surprise me at all; 30% of Americans believe that Jews are more loyal to Israel than to this country. Franklin Roosevelt in response to his Jewish advisers to react more swiftly to reports of the German concentration camps believed that the American people would not support using their boys to rescue the Jews.  When pressed further and harder the very patrician Roosevelt responded that this is a Protestant country and that Jews and in fact Catholics are more less just allowed to live here.  A pretty appalling sentiment. But, FDR was a man of his times and can't fairly be judged by our modern standards but that view is still very much held by many people. Keep in mind that we have had one Catholic President and we now have our first Catholic Vice President.

And, to build on that sentiment an appalling one-quarter of those polled believe that "Jews still talk too much about what happened to them in the Holocaust."  I have heard people say this and it never ceases to stop me in my tracks and at times has left me speechless, something that almost never happens.  I guess people would rather we forget about that icky business of 6,000,000 people slaughtered because of their faith.  Perhaps it is not so shocking after all there are Southern Republicans who are still fighting the Civil War and refer to it as the War of Northern Aggression & the wholesale massacre and dislocation of this continents native peoples is not even taught.

American Jews who support Israel are not anti-American or disloyal to their nation they, like me, believe that Israel is an ally that needs to be supported and supported in the strongest possible terms.  It is the only democracy in the region, they took a neglected region of rock & sand and transformed it into a nation with a thriving economy.  And, it is an historic homeland to people who have long lived in diaspora status.

Other interesting results of this poll 78% of think American Jews value their families but of course that means 22% of us think that they don't.

I just don't get it.

I have never understood the negative attitudes, the bigotry and the hatred that Jewish people have been forced to endure.  Of course when someone who does hold these feelings of hate tries to explain it to me I don't really give them much of chance to finish one of their idiotic utterances. I wave them off and walk away and shake my head in sadness and disgust.

Stunning Comment About The President & his Daughters

Failed California Libertarian candidate and rabid political activist Jules Manson posted  "Assassinate the fucken nigger and his monkey children" on his Facebook page, he was of course referring to the President of the United States and his two daughters. He has of course taken the post down and closed his FB page but of course nothing really goes away once it is posted on the interwebs.


According to The New York Daily News the Secret Service visited this low life.  Manson claims the Secret Service is satisfied that he is not an actual threat to the President but a spokes person for the Secret Service is saying the investigation is still open.

I wonder if Fox News or even members of the main stream media will cover this incident with any serious reporting?  If Fox does cover it I sure it will be from a freedom of speech perspective and the MSM will just give it "in other news" treatment.


I know that not everyone who opposes the President is a racist but it is becoming increasingly clear to me that those who aren't are a distinct minority.  The level of disrespect this President is shown is more deep than just a broken and polarized electoral system.


But, on second thought maybe it is really only skin deep.

Cuccinelli; Priests Will Soon Be Outlawed

This may be the most ridiculous act of political desperation I may have ever seen.  Ken Cuccinelli  the GOP Attorney General of Virginia and  nominee for Governor of Virginia is bombing in the polls and is on track to go down to a flaming and inglorious defeat.


The campaign has sent out a fundraising letter from Mrs. Cuccinelli that predicts the priests will be arrested in the pulpit for teaching Christian values.  So look out Father Ryan the black President is going to be sending his Naziesque storm troopers into your parish if you teach love, compassion and tolerance (since that is what Jesus taught).  But, really the wife of Ken was referring to the anti women, anti minority and gay bashing that many in the modern Republican party claim as Christian values.

This fundraising letter is of course a reaction the the Supreme Court refusing to hear Cuccinelli case trying reinstate the anti blow job laws in Virginia.

I wonder how much time Ken Cuccinelli and Rich Santorum spend together?

Michelle Bachman, Jesus and The Devil

Minnesota Republican Congresswoman Michelle Bachman is either a liar or just a lunatic but either way it is still appalling how much attention the main stream media pays attention to her.  All this attention does is fatten her wallet and encourages her.

Her statements and actions become more and more outrageous as she gets closer to the end of her final term in the Congress.  Now, she is accusing the President of The United States of funding terrorists.  Is her insanity so deep that she is confusing Barack Obama with Ronald Reagan, has her warped mind gone back in time?

But, fear not because she is not all that bothered by the news the Barack/Ronald Obama/Reagan is giving arms to terrorists because it is a sign that the end days are coming. Jesus is on his way back to town and he is pissed.

I hope Fox News or MSNBC has a camera focused on the well dressed yet crazy woman from Minnesota in case Jesus does return.

I imagine it going something like this.

Jesus takes one look at her, checks his tablet and says

"Oh no Girlfriend you are NOT coming with me, you are going to stay right here where you are"

She looks around confused and begins to speak but Jesus raises his hand and continues

"See all those Gay people over there; they have voted you off Revelation Island, I have discussed the issue with my father and even he is convinced that you are beyond redemption."

The Congresswoman falls to her knees and begins to pray but Jesus says

"Who exactly are you praying to, I am standing right here?"

There is a ruckus to his right and out of the black clouds walks Dick Cheney and he says "She was praying to me"

Jesus just shakes his head and says "Dick you are such a little devil, Where's Liz?"

Liz Cheney appears from the dark smoke reaches down and pulls Mrs. Bachman to her feet and says "I am taking you to the promise land" 

Michelle with tears in her eyes walks through the black clouds, when she arrives on the other side she sees a sign.

Is Putin Afraid of Selena Gomez?

Uber macho Russian President Vladimir Putin is afraid of Selena Gomez.  She was scheduled to perform next month in St. Petersburg and in Moscow.  The government has denied her a travel visa because they are afraid she will publicly criticize the anti-gay laws in Russia.

How Can Anyone Hate Miss America? But, some do.....

So many people really are just stupid.  

Some of the comments about the new Miss American are just disgusting.  The show a lack of understanding of geography, religion and anything else that does not support the notion of white superiority. If the comments were not so mean some of them would be funny.

Of course some of the most awful came from a Fox News commentator.

Congratulations to Nina Davuluri - I hope you have an enjoyable and positive reign as Miss America.  Don't let the the idiots get to you most of your fellow Americans are pretty decent people.

Hate Group leader Tony Perkins today called for a boycott of Betty Crocker because the company donated wedding cakes to 3 same sex couples after marriage equality became legal in Minnesota.
  

These people keep getting more and more awful and seem more and more out of touch with the culture around them.

Trying To Make a Town All White

This is 2013 right?  And, people still think like this.

Paul Craig Cobb would like to turn a small town in North Dakota into and all white enclave.  Supporters of Mr. Cobb have been buying up tracks of land in the town and apparently are going to try to force the town to proclaim itself White only.

Of course, the courts, the state and federal government will not allow it but that does not seem to matter to the folks involved.  I'm sure they are hoping for a violent confrontation.

"In an interview with The New York Times, Cobb said he hoped his plans in Leith would "excite" white people and "give them confidence because we're being  deracinated  in our own country."

I wonder how many people of color actually live in Leith, North Dakota? 

 But, I suppose that is not really the point here is it?

If Only Hell Existed I Would Wish Pat Robertson There

I was going to ignore this pronouncement  from "Leading" "Christian" "Intellectual" Rev. Pat Robertson but it is too disgusting, too stupid, too idiotic not to share.  

This web site  reports that the people who run Robertson's web site did not post the entire segment but rather a heavily edited version.

Sometimes I wished I believed in Hell just so I can wish Pat Robertson and his co-host Miss America 1973 Terry Meeuwsen would end up there.

Tossed Out By A Chattanooga Congregation

The "Pastor" of Ridgedale Church of Christ in Chattanooga has ordered an entire family; mom, dad, aunt, uncle and cousins from the congregation unless the publicly renounce their own daughter, niece and cousin because she is a LESBIAN.  They all committed the horrible sin of attending their family member's wedding to her female partner.

This "Pastor" is not a Christian and the people who support him are not Christians.

They are a mockery of the teaching of Jesus Christ and they are bad people.  They are in for a super big surprise when they get to heaven and they see people who neither think link them nor look like them.

What if they don't make it to heaven because they are so hateful?

Where will they go? Where will they spend all of eternity?

If I believed there was a hell it would be my first suggestion but since I do not maybe they will just be stuck behind the velvet rope watching while the rest of us go through the VIP entrance to Roxy. (I may be slightly dating myself with that but so be it)
