In 1980 there was no one who campaigned harder for the re-election of President Jimmy Carter. I went to DC for the summer and then to the convention on my own dime to support him. His re-election was the only thing that mattered to me and I thought if he was not re-elected the nation would fail. President Carter was our President, the President and he was my President.
President Carter lost
I opposed everything President Ronald Reagan stood for and opposed every one of his proposals but he was elected President and therefore he was our President and I always referred to him as The President and always called him President Reagan.
I campaigned my ass off for Walter Mondale in 1984 - He lost - President Ronald Reagan remained our President and Nancy remained our First Lady.
1988 - I supported Dukakis and Poppy Bush won - During his presidency I referred to George Herbert Walker Bush as our President, the President and President Bush.
1992 - A candidate I voted for becomes President so of course I referred to William Jefferson Clinton as our President, the President, President Clinton and My President.
Eight years later a man wins the presidency but not the popular vote. He won because he won the Electoral College
None the less I referred to George W. Bush as President Bush, our President and the President.
Our, My, The President Barack Obama was elected in 2008.
So, given this history it would seem to be logical that I will refer to Donald Trump as our President, the President and President Trump.
I can't
And, I am bothered by this
But, I just can't
It is not because he lost the popular vote by 3 million votes (GWB lost it by less then 300, 000)
It is not because he is shallow
It is not because he is thin skinned
It is not because he is petty
It is not because he has small hands
It is not because I am opposed to everything he stands for
It is not because he is vulgar
It is not because he is violating the Constitution by gaining wealth from foreign governments
It is because he mocked a man with a physical disability, his clear history of disrespect for women
and because he led the birther movement.
The birther movement sought to discredit and nullify the first non-white President. A black man was elected President and Donald Trump spent eight (8) years leading a movement to call this man a foreigner and an illegal President. It was the darkest and most vile movement in American politics since the Joe McCarthy era.
My not supporting Donald Trump does not mean I want this nation to fail and it does not mean I do not love this great republic.
I have clearly been respectful of President I thought were wrong on every issues. But, they were not racists who attempted to deny a citizen his right to the Presidency
Trump is the legally elected President of the United States so he is this country's President
I will never refer to him as the President
I will never refer to him as President Trump
I will never refer to him as our President
And, he will never ever be my President.......... A vulgar racist will never be my President

And, does Sarah Palin's poorly written book count as part of the war on Christmas since she is using Christmas to personally prosper - which does not seem like something Mary and Joseph would do.

Share Your Story About President Kennedy's Death & Funeral
I was 4 years old so my memory of President Kennedy's assassination is not very extensive.
Apparently as a child I used play with my mother's pots and pans a lot and I guess I had them out and in front of the TV watching Julia Child.
I remember my mother rushing to the front of the TV and then she started to cry not weeping but really crying. I knew that a tissue would not do the job so I remember grabbing a dish towel and handing it to her.
Other than that I just remember my parents being glued to the TV and black and white flickering images.
The New York Times assembles an interesting cross section of Americans to share what they remember of that fateful day.

The Speaker Can't Get Coverage & Russert Shills For Him

The diligent Mr. Russert did not offer any independent verification that this actually happened. It could have have been staged by the desperate Republican leader.
A number of things could have happened along the way that could have caused John Boehner some problems.
- John Boehner is a resident of Ohio and does not qualify for Health Care with the DC Exchange.
- Mr. Boehner's income is too high for coverage and he does not qualify.
- Mr. Boehner gets his health care paid for by his employer and does not qualify.
- Was Speaker Boehner sober?
- Why was John Boehner doing private and personal business on his employers time and using his employers computer. That is grounds for firing in the private sector.
- The system was having one of its glitches.
Perhaps Luke Russert will offer a more full report tonight on the Evening News......or not.

Afghanistan: Last Jew Standing
This story amazes me:
There is only one person left in Afghanistan who is Jewish.
Maybe I'm naive or maybe I live in this rarefied world where things like this are not feasible to me but how can a nation have only one Jewish person?
There have been Jews in that part of the world since there have been Jews. There is documentation that goes back more than 2000 years.
Zabulon Simintov owns a once thriving cafe and catering service but the new Afghanistan that The United States has spent billions of dollars on and gave thousands of lives to "save" has turned its back on it's Jewish population and has made life unsafe for them.
Is this what we intended to happen? Is this the Afghanistan of Dick Cheney's dreams? (maybe it is)

Marriage Equality Comes to Hawaii & Illinois - What's Up With Pennsylvania?
Hawaii becomes the 15th state to join the campaign for this country to become a more perfect union. On Dec. 2nd of this year marriage equality will become the law of our fiftieth. We've been to the Aloha State 3 times and quite frankly I'm surprised it has taken this long. It was far and the away the most open, warm, inviting and affirming place I have ever been.
It is estimated that marriage equality will bring and estimated $217 million to the states economy over the next 3 years.
Did you read this legislators in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania?
Think of the boost to the Commonwealth's economy. If you don't care about love, humanity, justice or decency I know that you do care about jobs and taxes collected. If you can't pass marriage equality because you respect people at least do it for job creation in the Pocono's and other hot tourist areas.
So now the birth place of this great republic is being shown up by New Jersey which alone is horrendous, but now the youngest state and Illinois, really Philadelphia and Pittsburgh you are going to let Chicago make you look Birmingham.

The Fury Directed at Richard Cohen
The interwebs have been all aflame about this column by Washington Post opinion writer Richard Cohen. From the reactions I have been reading I expected a super racist rant by this sometimes controversial columnist.

What I read was a pretty common recap of why New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will struggle to get the 2016 GOP nomination for President. Mr. Cohen recaps what we all know about how the voters who control the Iowa caucuses are from the more extreme wing of the party and right now their golden boy is the Canadian born Ted Cruz and his reactionary papa.
Mr. Cohen goes onto describe all the issues and reasons why the Tea Bagger types feel alienated from the changing face of this country. And, this is where he gets himself into trouble with his critics.
"Today’s GOP is not racist, as Harry Belafonte alleged about the tea party, but it is deeply troubled — about the expansion of government, about immigration, about secularism, about the mainstreaming of what used to be the avant-garde. People with conventional views must repress a gag reflex when considering the mayor-elect of New York — a white man married to a black woman and with two biracial children. (Should I mention that Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, used to be a lesbian?) This family represents the cultural changes that have enveloped parts — but not all — of America. To cultural conservatives, this doesn’t look like their country at all."
I have to question Mr. Cohen's use of the word "conventional" when describing the views of the people he is writing about. These views are far outside what is America in 2013 - The de Blasio-McCray family looks a lot more like America than the Tea Baggers who control the Republican Party right now. The nation is changing and they can't handle it.
Perhaps I am missing something here but I don't really see the reasons for the fury being foisted on Mr. Cohen. The column does not break new ground and fairly accurately describes the the angst of the people who hate change, foreigners, people of color and the gays. Oh and they hate government unless it is benefiting them, then it's super fantastic.

New Jersey A Step Closer to Marriage Equality
Is Pennsylvania going to be the last holdout in the Northeast?
Yesterday a New Jersey Superior Court judge ruled that marriage inequality was not legal in the state. The judge used the recent Supreme Court as the basis for her decision. This is not the final word on this matter the case is likely to be appealed to the Court of Appeals and then to the New Jersey Supreme Court. But, New Jersey is clearly on it's way to recognizing marriage equality.
Well Done You! Superior Court Judge Mary Jacobson
Many New Jersey court watchers believe that Superior Courts Judge's ruling overturning the states inadequate Civil Union law in favor of marriage equality will be upheld on appeal. The states obnoxious and popular Governor vetoed legislation earlier this year allowing same sex marriage and the legislature has until January to over ride it. So, it appears New Jersey will join the rest of the Northeastern states in supporting a more perfect union.

Which leaves my home state as the last hold out.
C'mon Pennsylvania you can do this. Remember you are the state that claims to be the birth place of this great democracy and you are the home of the first and only (reportedly) gay President.
Please Pennsylvania don't let Alabama do this before you do!

Governor Humiliates McConnell and Paul
I wish I could have witnessed this.
The Democratic Governor of Kentucky smacks down his states two Republican Senators.
Kentucky is represented in the Senate by "the worst person on the planet" AKA Mitch McConnell and a man so dumb he thinks he's smart (and what is up with his hair) Rand Paul.

The chattering class is still bad mouthing The Affordable Care Act and still pretending the Republicans have a chance to overturn it. The Republicans are still pandering to the Tea Baggers that they are actually going to repeal a law the Supreme Court has ruled valid and constitutional. It is not going to happen and Governor Beshear tells us why.

Tossed Out By A Chattanooga Congregation
The "Pastor" of Ridgedale Church of Christ in Chattanooga has ordered an entire family; mom, dad, aunt, uncle and cousins from the congregation unless the publicly renounce their own daughter, niece and cousin because she is a LESBIAN. They all committed the horrible sin of attending their family member's wedding to her female partner.
This "Pastor" is not a Christian and the people who support him are not Christians.
They are a mockery of the teaching of Jesus Christ and they are bad people. They are in for a super big surprise when they get to heaven and they see people who neither think link them nor look like them.
What if they don't make it to heaven because they are so hateful?
Where will they go? Where will they spend all of eternity?
If I believed there was a hell it would be my first suggestion but since I do not maybe they will just be stuck behind the velvet rope watching while the rest of us go through the VIP entrance to Roxy. (I may be slightly dating myself with that but so be it)

The partner of Reporter/Activist Glenn Greenwald was detained by British security forces for close to nine hours. Greenwald has been instrumental in assisting Edward Snowden get his story out. Greenwald's partner a Brazilian national has been unable to live with Greenwald here in the U.S. because of the restrictions and limits placed on gay relationships by the recently overturned DOMA.

Not Hopeful About Sochi
I have tried to write and re-write a blog post about the Olympics and each time it seems too over the top.
But, I do fear for the future of the Olympics if the IOC does not get control of this situation and assure the world that their gay sons and daughters are going to be safe if they participate in the games.
What if the rich people of the world choose to not buy tickets to the games because they do not want a backlash back home? Or, they really care about LBGT issues.
What will that impact of a failed games be on the health and welfare of gay people in Russia? Will gay folks be blamed for the failed Olympics or will the Putin Posse realize the error of their ways and try to reform Russian culture?
My glass is so half empty on this I can't even imagine a good outcome.

Man on Dog Lover Thinks We Have A No Memory & The Old Bigot Returns
Frothy hot man on dog proponent Little Ricky Santorum now claims that the "Middle Class" is a "Marxist term".
The pro puppy humper has used this term through out his many many campaigns. Does it mean that the sweater vest loving pervert is a Marxist as well?
What really amazes me about this is that Santorum didn't think people would go back and find the thousands of time he used the term "Middle Class".
And
It should shock no one that Pat Buchanan comes down on the side of hate & bigotry. The Anti-Semite, homophobia proponent and former Nixon speech writer is now pro-Putin.
What planet do these guys come from......Uranus maybe?

NCAA profits, Whitey, $$ Raised & Stop & Frisk
The NCAA announced that it will not longer profit from the exploitation of it's student athletes names. It will no longer sell shirts with the kid's names on it. They were making big buck off the names of the athletes but the students themselves could not profit from their own talent or own name. It's about time.

NY City Council Speaker and Mayoral candidate Christine Quinn front runner is also leading the race for the money. Most of my liberal friends are supporting the more liberal Bill De Blasio but think I am pulling for Ms.Quinn because it would be amazing and powerful to have the mayor of the most important city on the planet to be a lesbian. She may not be the perfect liberal but she surely is progressive but I can accept that to send the message of her election to the world.

New York Police Stop and Frisk has been found to violate the civil rights or thousands of New York citizens. This procedure needs a second look and the court did the right thing to force the city's hand.
