PA Governor; Dead Man Walking

The Daily Kos handicaps  next years governor races across the country.

"Dead Man Walking"  Is how they describe Pennsylvania's astoundingly awful Governor Tom Corbett.

I have not always loved this commonwealth's governors but they have all been very smart and by and large capable.  And, then there is Tom Corbett who is in over his head, out of his league and astonishingly incompetent.

After last weeks comparing gay relationships to incest a comment that was meant to smooth over some bigoted remarks by the attorneys he hired to "defend traditional marriage" was so far out there there that I now truly believe the 46th Governor of Pennsylvania is not very bright.

Maybe all the pandering to the extreme right wing has made his brain mush or maybe the fact that when he was Attorney General he ignored the evidence against Jerry Sandusky really just proves he is either not very bright or incompetent or maybe both.

Either way Tom Corbett may very well be the worst Governor Pennsylvania has ever had.

Republicans Have No Sense of Decency

The Republican Party  which clearly has no sense of decency was selling this pin at their California meeting.

Super Power Success in Africa

U. S. Forces in broad daylight near the capital of Libya capture the Al Qaeda leader who was behind the 1995 embassy bombing in Tanzania and Kenya.

U. S. Navy Seals take out the Al Qaeda affiliated Shabab leader behind the Westgate Mall massacre last week.

While the Republicans try to deny health care to millions of Americans, while their shut down causes harm and distress to the dedicated government employees and those small and large business owners who do business with the government and in and around government related sites; the defense of this nation continues.

Will Darryl Issa and Ted Cruz call for hearings about these successes?  Of course not they only call for hearings to make the government of this country look bad.

de Blasio Raising Money - Quinn Left a Bundle on The Table

Since winning the New York Democratic mayoral primary Bill de Blasio has raised almost three times  as much money as his Republican opponent.

The most amazing part of this story is that third place candidate and one time front runner City Council President Christine Quinn had almost $5 million. One of the cardinal rules of politics is end the race with as little money as possible.  It is wise to set aside some money for the general election and or post primary expenses but you don't leave $5 million unspent.

I would have thought that when her lead began to dwindle she would have spent more money to get her message out.  Even in the money pit that is the New York media market $5 million dollars can go a long way.

Computer Trouble Shooters!

My laptop is a little under the weather.

But, the amazing folks at Computer Trouble Shooters, Bethlehem PA were kind enough to give me a loner as they go about the business of removing the virus.

I have gotten to know owner Scott Gingold through various Chamber, networking and charity events and he is a great guy.  This is the first time I have had to use Scott's services and I am impressed.

He caught a tweet of mine that I was a little depressed not having my lap top and now my car had to get towed to the dealership - within 20 minutes he is dropping of this loner to get me through.

Now that is customer service!

So if you have tech problems big or small contact my friends at http://ctbethlehem.com/.

What Does it Say About Us? The NYC Opera Closing

This may not be the final scene  but it is the beginning of the final act for The New York City Opera.

The spokesman for the board announced “Today, the board and management will begin the necessary financial and operational steps to wind down the company including initiating the Chapter 11 process.”

I know that I seem obsessed over this story but it really does distress and sadden me.

The New York City Opera closing, the contents of the Detroit Art Institute may be put on the chopping block, orchestras across the country are closing or cutting back, libraries limiting hours of operations, small museums closing, arts in the schools being cut, preforming arts centers being sold and turned into retail or residential spaces and community theaters are darkened.

What does it say about a nation that does not care about it's arts and culture or appreciates the contributions the creative classes offer to the local community and society at large?

What does it say about us as a people if art means nothing, if New York City can't support two excellent opera companies?

Who are we as a people if libraries close and we are not disturbed by it?

What does it say about our society if we don't care if our PBS/NPR stations struggle, cut back or close?

One of this nations great opera company is shuttered and one of this nations great repositories of fine art may close to solve the problems of a mismanaged and neglected city and so few people either notice or worse yet even care.

But, a Kardashian gets knocked up by an ego maniacal and delusion pop/rap star and this country notices and many of care a great deal.

What does it say about us?

U.S. House of...........

The cover page headlines of the New York tabloids are usually pretty clever.

Today The New York Daily News takes it up a notch and sums up John Boehner and his Republican controlled House of Representatives quite accurately!
