Gay Bars

Gay bars are where we go to be in the majority.
Gay bars are where we go to be ourselves.
Gay bars are where we go to be someone else.
Gay bars are where we go to feel comfortable.
Gay bars are we we go to be with people who understand us fully.
Gay bars are where we go to hook up.
Gay bars are where we go to feel free.
Gay bars are where we go for empathy and support.
Gay bars are where we go to feel safe.

Until last night.

There are those who are critical of the bar culture in the LGBT community but the first time I walked into a gay bar I felt accepted, I no longer felt alone and I knew I had a home and a safe place and people would support me and they would understand me.

Until last night.

The people who went to Pulse last night were children, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, fathers, mothers, co-workers, Democrats, Republicans and people who don't give a shit about politics. 

The people who went to Pulse last night went to have fun, went to celebrate, went to let loose, to dance, to sing and to look for Mr or Ms Right.

They did not go there to die.

But, 50 of them did.

I am gutted I am heartbroken and I am angry.  But, I don't know what I can do about it. 

No Apology

The former half term governor of Alaska who has been in news reports involving violent drunken behavior and Meghan McCain a widely noted scholar recently criticized President Obama for going to Hiroshima and apologizing.

Words matter.

Please show me the words of apology.

They will not because they can not.

But, the national media reports on their statements without asking them for proof.

This President has never been on an apology tour because he has nothing to apologize for. 

He is an example of American exceptionalism.

Could George W Bush claim he had nothing to apologize for?

Sean Hannity threatens and nobody cares

Not really sure how Sean Hannity became a star (sort of) he has no background in policy, government, education or really anything other than talking.

But, so be it.

He is a radical right wing darling! Probably because he just spouts out what they want to hear and for that he has become famous and really quite wealthy.


Recently New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said this  “extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault—weapon, anti-gay…have no place in the State of New York"

On his next show Sean Hannity said this.

The people of New York could care less whether a tedious hack like Sean Hannity leaves their state, Florida or Texas can have him.  I'm just glad he's not coming to Pennsylvania.

I wonder if Roger Ailes has noticed Hannity's fail?  

I suspect Hannity will be wondering how long Ailes will put up with this huge mistake while he is packing up his house.

Afghanistan: Last Jew Standing

This story amazes me:

There is only one person left in Afghanistan who is Jewish.

Maybe I'm naive or maybe I live in this rarefied world where things like this are not feasible to me but how can a nation have only one Jewish person?

There have been Jews in that part of the world since there have been Jews.  There is documentation that goes back more than 2000 years.

Zabulon Simintov owns a once thriving cafe and catering service but the new Afghanistan that The United States has spent billions of dollars on and gave thousands of lives to "save" has turned its back on it's Jewish population and has made life unsafe for them.

Is this what we intended to happen?  Is this the Afghanistan of Dick Cheney's dreams? (maybe it is)

Palin Says She is Not a Racist and More

The half term former Governor of Alaska who somehow thinks she has all the answers to the nations problems even though she has not done anything other than get rich over the last five years has made another "I am not a racist" racially charged comment.

The insufferably dumb Sister Sarah has compared the national debt to slavery because it is all the Black President's fault. Even though study after study has shown that the debt is always larger under Republican Presidents than it is under Democratic Presidents.


In other news she is opening her let's make money off of nothing tour in our community on Tuesday.  I am going to welcome her by doing the thing she hates.

I am going to ignore her!

Another School Shooting

So!  Just another school day in the United States of America.

A 12 year old child  walks into school with a semi-automatic weapon - blows away a teacher, shots two of his fellow students and then takes his own life.

And, the nation yawns.


I don't know what to say anymore.  I don't know what to think anymore.

Santorum; Hating The Gays Tour Continues

Here we go again!

Nothing about "hot man on dog action' but more of the usual over the top rhetoric from former Pennsylvania Senator and delusional presidential hopeful Little Ricky Santorum .


While speaking before a GOP Leadership conference the man who has an unhealthy obsession about homosexuality made some outrageous claims.  But, he makes claims like this so often they are almost getting boring.

Homophobia was going along just fine until Will & Grace came on TV.

By saying this Santorum is confirming that visibility has helped gay people's treatment in society - or To know us is to Love us.

Christians are afraid of speaking out because they are afraid of being branded haters and bigots.

Well, if ya'll go against the teaching of Jesus Christ and preach hate instead of love maybe you area a bigoted hater.  Santorum is also hinting at the extreme right wing fear that Christianity is going to become illegal.

If Republicans support marriage equality they are supporting the destruction of the nation.

So if I legally marry the guy I have been with for almost 30 years this great republic will be destroyed.  Sorry Senator Pervert your hateful view of the world is causing more damage to the freedoms and sense of justice that built this nation than my love.

But, this great nation is stronger than pathetic, evil, small minded little obsessive prigs.

I wish I knew the real reason Richard John Santorum was so obsessed with this issue.  What happened in his life to make this such a focus?

NY GOP Comes Begging to Trump

I don't get peoples interest in Donald Trump and why some folks want the TV "Star" to run for high government office.


Now the New York State Republican party is pleading with Mr. Trump  to run against current Governor Andrew Cuomo.  What is it about Trump that some people thinks qualifies him for either President or Governor?  What has he done or accomplished in his life?

He's been married 3 times and has cheated on his wives and humiliated them each in the process.  So he is clearly not stable nor his he respectful of women.

He is a bully always threatening people, calling them names and starting pathetic and petty public fights. He clearly does not have the temperament do deal with the intricacies of foreign policy or Democrats in the legislature.

How many times have he and or his company filed for bankruptcy?  So he is clearly not that great of businessman.

There are two reason why Trump will not actually run for office.

1. He could not face the humiliation of a defeat.  He knows not only a campaign would ruin his brand but a loss will destroy it.

2. He will have to disclose how much he is really worthy and what his sources of income are.  What if he is not worth as much as he says he is?  What if he is just a paper tiger and living off the largess of his investors?   He would have to give up his lucrative contract with NBC in order to run and perhaps he can't afford to give up a job that pays.

My guess is that Trump will not run.

de Blasio Raising Money - Quinn Left a Bundle on The Table

Since winning the New York Democratic mayoral primary Bill de Blasio has raised almost three times  as much money as his Republican opponent.


The most amazing part of this story is that third place candidate and one time front runner City Council President Christine Quinn had almost $5 million. One of the cardinal rules of politics is end the race with as little money as possible.  It is wise to set aside some money for the general election and or post primary expenses but you don't leave $5 million unspent.

I would have thought that when her lead began to dwindle she would have spent more money to get her message out.  Even in the money pit that is the New York media market $5 million dollars can go a long way.

Hillary, Bill, Barack & Chelsea VS Ted Cruz

Compare and contrast these

Hillary Clinton throws down the gauntlet and dared the Republican to shut down the government.  You may recall that Mrs. Clinton was First Lady the first time the Republicans pulled this stunt and you may also recall the disaster that befell the Party Nixon built shortly thereafter.

“This president is not going to agree to defund health care,” she said. “If they want to shut the government down, that is on their head.”

Two Presidents and A Secretary of State  and Chelsea Clinton took the stage at the Clinton Foundation annual meeting.  Chelsea and her mother set the tone and introduced the two Presidents as they set about discussing the Affordable Care Act.




And then there is

Ted Cruz who has taken to the Senate floor to speak and speak and speak.  He promised to filibuster the continuing resolution legislation unfortunately the bill has not reached the stage where a filibuster could take effect.  I wonder if this ignorant little Joe McCarthy wannabe realizes that all of his babble is for naught. Because this endless tirade and nonsense talk will not count in the history books as a filibuster.  For a guy who went to Harvard Law he does not seem to have a grasp on either reality or the facts.


The imagery is striking on one side you have A Secretary of State Former Senator & First Lady, her husband a former President and global political titan and the current President of the United States and on the other side TED CRUZ.

Colorado Floods and The Homosexuals!

It was just a matter of time before a GOP leaning conservative went ahead and blames The Gays, pot and legal abortions for the flooding in Colorado.


But, I wonder if the eminent scholar Mr. Swanson is mistaken and maybe it was the gun lobby's successful recall of two Colorado Senators last week that pissed off G-D enough to cause the flooding.

Not that any day is a good day to throw firecrackers over the fence of the White House but with what was going on about 4 miles away today was a really bad day to do it.

Another Mass Killing...It all feels so hopeless.

Another mass murdering rampage this time at a Navy Base.  How many times does this have to happen before this nation's leader will compelled to do something to end this madness?

Our soldiers were slaughtered on their base Texas, our babies were slaughtered in their first grade classroom in Connecticut, young couples were slaughtered while watching Batman in Colorado, our teenagers were slaughtered while changing classes also in Colorado, our college students were slaughtered on campus in Virginia and now our sailors were slaughtered in our nations capital.

And, our elected representatives in Congress will do nothing about it.  They are so afraid of a psychotic madman name Wayne La Pierre and they are more concerned about re-election then they are about our safety.

How many more people need to get slaughtered?

What is my Congressman Charlie Dent going to do about this?  Nothing, nothing at all.

At least my extreme right wing Senator Pat Toomey tried do something last year.

It all feels so hopeless.

So many people really are just stupid.  

Some of the comments about the new Miss American are just disgusting.  The show a lack of understanding of geography, religion and anything else that does not support the notion of white superiority. If the comments were not so mean some of them would be funny.

Of course some of the most awful came from a Fox News commentator.

Congratulations to Nina Davuluri - I hope you have an enjoyable and positive reign as Miss America.  Don't let the the idiots get to you most of your fellow Americans are pretty decent people.

The Congressman representing the best and the brightest of all of Texas aka Louie the Dumb  Gohmert has proposed that the executive branch be defunded.

Hot damn this man is a genius.

Could it be the bloom is off the rose as far as the "he who channels Joseph McCarthy" aka Senator Ted Cruz of Texas.

Iowa Republicans are having a bit a of a time selling tickets to a dinner where the nastiest Senator is going to be the guest speaker.  Just this week they began to offer a 25% discount.

They are also having a deep discount on sweater vests.  Perhaps the man on dog logo is not as popular with voters as Little Ricky Santorum promised.

Hate Group leader Tony Perkins today called for a boycott of Betty Crocker because the company donated wedding cakes to 3 same sex couples after marriage equality became legal in Minnesota.

A Tragic Opera Story

The City Opera of New York which has tried to bring opera to the people  for the past 70 years is in danger of cancelling the rest of this season and all of the next season. If they do not raise $20 Million by the end of the year it could very well be the end for this beloved New York Institution.

The City Opera is the smaller of the two opera companies that occupy space at Lincoln Center and it has always struggled in the shadow of the mighty Metropolitan Opera.  The theater is not as big, the stars are not as big and production values are not as big but they are in no way inferior.  The City Opera has been where the great stars of opera make their American debuts and has proven to be a great training ground for the likes of Beverly Sills and Renee Fleming just to name two.

I have seen Madame Butterfly performed by both companies and quite frankly I thought the woman cast as Butterfly was better at The City Opera. But, that really means nothing other than to try to make myself come off as an opera snob. I do love opera but I am hardly an expert.

The City Opera in many countries would be consider the premier opera and in fact it is world class.  It is astonishing to me that New York cannot sustain two brilliant opera companies.

If The City Opera of New York is forced to close it will be a very sad day for the arts & culture for not only New York but for all of us.  And, for those who could only enjoy opera at a fairly reasonable price tag. .

And, Dennis Rodman calls him his good friend.  Really? Dennis - This man is your good friend?

I beg you MSM please ignore this idiot.  Oh and Fox / Republicans every time you say Rodman is better at foreign policy than the President of the United States it just makes you look like idiots.  So go ahead and hit the Sunday talk show circuit and say it.  I dare you....you will.
