I feel bad for Sanders/Trump supporters (sort of)

The Sanders/Trump supporters are true true believers in their candidate.

The best I can say about them is that they are naive.

But, they are ignorant, uniformed and have no idea about how the real America works.

They believe that their man is going to change this country.  They believe that if Bernie or Donald is going to do what they say they are going to do.  They think that if you are elected President will be able to rule this country and accomplish everything you promise the voters.

Do the Bernie/Trump supporters (who look a lot alike) really believe:

  • There will be free college education
  • A wall will be built along the border with Mexico and the Mexican government will pay for it
  • Health care will morph into a Universal plan
  • We will force manufacturing to return from Asia
  • Rich people will willingly pay for everything Sanders is proposing
  • We will get tired of Donald Trump leading us to winning
You get my point.

Do the Trump and Sanders supporters really believe that if their guy wins the election that he will be able to accomplish everything he promised? I think they do.

Note:  The true believing Obama 2008 supporters believed that he would change the world, they believed that he would just say "I want this" and it would be done.  They will deny this but they really wanted to elect a dictator not a President.  And, like Rosario Dawson they turned on him within 60 days.

Politics, government and life is not a perfect experience and we should not expect our candidates to be perfect nor can we expect them to be able to deliver on everything they promise.  Life is about compromise as is politics.  Campaigns are supposed to be about hopes - I have come to understand that it is also about the possible.

If either Trump or Sanders is elected President there are going to be millions of disappointed people in this country.  They want a dictator and what they are going to get is a President who has to deal with a Congress and a Judicial system that are equally important.

I just wish they would grow up or at least live in the real United States of America.

...................................................................................................................................................................
This may have been a little harsh and I think we need true believers - we need people who dream of a better country.

  1. Welcome back to blogging, Donald. I've never commented before, but I've read you for many years and especially appreciated the series of posts about your coming out, so I'm glad your writing here again.

I can understand where you're coming from with this post. I remember feeling uncomfortable in 2008 with the arguments some Obama supporters made on his behalf and the attacks they directed at Hillary. Even though I was an Obama supporter myself, and have remained so, it seemed to me that many of his supporters had a idea of him almost as distorted as the caricatures made of him by the right.

Now as a Bernie supporter I find myself even more uncomfortable with the rabid, deluded support I've encountered online. It probably doesn't help matters that I'm another 8 years older and inclined to think even less about what some dumb kids have to say.

But I still think you're being a bit unkind in judging Sanders on the quality of his loudest and least informed support. Half of people are dumber than the average, and no one can become elected president without the support of idiots.

And while it may be the case that reality disabused many of Obama's followers of their dream that his election would solve everything, I don't think it's accurate to put most of his supporters in the category of "true believers (of political fantasy)". Frankly, considering the opposition Obama's confronted over his two terms, he has in many ways exceeded what I thought was politically possible, whether we're talking about the ACA, getting Sotomayor and Kagan confirmed, or making progress with Iran and Cuba, etc.

So I'm not under any impression that Sanders is the Great and Powerful Oz bringing the New Deal back by magic, but you also don't stay in Washington for as long as he has and stay the naive cartoon that some of his detractors seem to see. He may be the second-coming of Jesus to some of his supporters and the second-coming of Buddy the Elf to some of his detractors, but both sides are fooling themselves. He's still a professional politician.

Also, while I'll certainly concede that some Bernie supporters are as unreasonable as Trump supporters, I don't think it's fair to conclude from that that Bernie is as insane a candidate as Trump. (Not that you were necessarily guilty of doing that.) Both my dad and my fiance are Clinton supporters and the 2016 Democratic primary has given us a lot of wonderful things to have serious, civil arguments about because I think they are both serious, civil candidates with reasonable differences of opinion. The Republican primary, on the other hand, is a god damn shit show.

I'm voting for Sanders at the end of this month because I prefer him over Clinton and think he's done a somewhat better job making himself into a standard-bearer for what I consider the substantial progress made in the last 7 years, but I'll proudly vote for Clinton when the time comes in November.

Thanks again for returning to blogging.

    1. Thanks for the kind words and I am glad to be back. My single biggest problem with Bernie Sanders is that he has not integrity or true conviction.

He is not a Democrat and yet he is running in the Democratic primary. If he really had true conviction and integrity he would be running as an independent. Since that is what he claims to be

Why isn't Lyndon LaRouche getting any coverage from the MSM this election cycle? Could it b the fix is in for Hillary and the liberal media justifies its ostrich syndrome of legitimate 3rd party candidates?

One only needs to look at the U.K's attempt to leave the E.U as proof of what LaRouche has been warning us about for decades regarding The resumption of British Imperialism and their insatiable appetite for regaining old territories, they assassinated Rob Ford in a bid to silence his voice and gain a toe hold in Toronto politics, NONE of the cretins running now will touch this subject because they are willfully ignorant.

  3. I was interested by what you call yourself until I read comment.

How is Lyndon LaRouche even still a thing. He has been ignored by the MSM in every election cycle since 1976. Why should this year be any different.

His views are on the extreme.

LaRouche could have saved the country and planet but Democratic Party hacks such as yourself and Jim Gregory did everything you could to block him from winning delegates, his mind is still sharp even at 93 so perhaps after trump takes us into a new era of degradation we can have a 100 year old president who would finally confront the Limey menace.

    2. Clearly you are bored with offering your opinions on Other local blogs (thus the Jim Gregory reference).
If I was such a hack how would I have the power to keep LL from winning. He was, is and will always be a crackpot full of wild conspiracy theories.
