When Will It Be Safe?
The New York Daily News publishes this stunning and powerful front page.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/15/ny-daily-news-trayvon-martin_n_3597797.html
I'm sure the people on the right will condemn this but the Daily News asks a compelling question.
When will it be safe for young black men to walk the streets of this country? When will young black men not be viewed with suspicion while out in public, while shopping at the mall, while walking downtown, while shopping at Target?
At the same time when will it be safe or young black men to walk the streets of their neighborhood in Chicago or many other cities in this country.

I read this(and plenty other things like it) somewhere.I don't know how I feel about it, but people think about this stuff even if they don't say it.I don't know if these numbers are 100% accurate, but the general theme is something I have thought true.I personally don't think twice when I see black people walking my way, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't think there is a cultural problem withing the black community .As Bill Cosby about it.
ReplyDelete" Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery.
When blacks commit crimes of violence, they are nearly three times more likely than non-blacks to use a gun, and more than twice as likely to use a knife.
Hispanics commit violent crimes at roughly three times the white rate, and Asians commit violent crimes at about one quarter the white rate.
The single best indicator of violent crime levels in an area is the percentage of the population that is black and Hispanic."
Are you black?
DeleteIf you are going to give me "facts" please back them up with where they came from. What is your source? What is the science behind your information? What other studies support it? Who paid for this study?
You are sharing "facts" with me and you are not sure if they are accurate? Really? And, I am expected to change my mind and or believe either them or your sincerity?
Not sure what "As Bill Cosby about it" means
I am going to let your comment stay on here because people need to see what people are thinking.

ReplyDeleteBill Cosby on black youth
I tried hard to find a government web site with stats on this. I easily found plenty of online stats on the race of the victims but nothing on the perpetrators .Maybe that says something, maybe not.I have found plenty of sites saying basically the same thing though. Not much to the contrary. If it isn't a baseless theory someone credible ought to start posting the facts , because it isn't helping and people do think it. This is the source of the "facts" I did find.

Best I could do in a short amount of time was this . Published by the NY Times
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/26/opinion/26macdonald.html?_r=0
"The department analyzes victim reports daily, and deploys additional manpower to the places where crime is increasing. Once at a crime hot spot, officers are expected to look out for, and respond to, suspicious behavior.
Such stops happen more frequently in minority neighborhoods because that is where the vast majority of violent crime occurs — and thus where police presence is most intense. Based on reports filed by victims, blacks committed 66 percent of all violent crime in New York in 2009, including 80 percent of shootings and 71 percent of robberies. Blacks and Hispanics together accounted for 98 percent of reported gun assaults. And the vast majority of the victims of violent crime were also members of minority groups.
Non-Hispanic whites, on the other hand, committed 5 percent of the city’s violent crimes in 2009, 1.4 percent of all shootings and less than 5 percent of all robberies. "
Thanks for the updates
DeleteI am trying to understand your point by showing me these #'s. Where are the numbers for white people?
Are you saying that Trayvon's killer was justified?
Are you saying that Trayvon was guilty because other black people are bad?
It looks that way to me.
You give me "facts and figures" that paint black folks in a very bad light - so therefore of course Trayvon was out looking for trouble - your "facts are an attempt to distract - This is about 1 man who stalked, confronted and killed an unarmed teenage.
I have to ask this - do you feel any sadness over the death of this teenager? Because you are trying very hard to justify and excuse his death.
Oh, no, no, don't misunderstand. I was not talking about Tray at all. I was commenting on what plenty of white people think when they think of black people(especially younger black people) as a group. It was an answer/comment to "When will young black men not be viewed with suspicion while out in public". While I believe the stats are probably close to the truth, I don't think it is some inherent thing wrong with black people. I think it is a economic, culture problem .
DeleteThanks
DeleteI am glad you cleared that up - and just made it worse - I suspect that your intent is not overtly racist. I'm sure you are very nice person and are kind and thoughtful and care about your community and country but that last sentence is so stunning I am not sure how to respond to it in short order.
Having said that I truly appreciate your reading my little blog and more importantly taking the time to comment and respond. I appreciate your reaching out.
